Print Shop Inc. (PSI) has continued to develop its Art @ Home programing throughout 2022 with a recently-completed Art @ Home: Snow Day Edition, and an ongoing collaboration with the Holyoke Senior Center for a series of art classes held over Zoom. In January, February, and March, artist Anne Thalheimer developed and taught three online classes for youth and families (and we actually had snowfall on two of those three days!). They included a watercolor basics class, a flying fish tissue paper ornament class where participants completed a project inspired by Japanese carp flags, and a monster lettering class that proved to be the most popular of all.
Each participant received a kit to keep with all program supplies that they would need for the class, instructions in English and Spanish, and a link to join the live online class. This program was funded by a grant from the Holyoke Local Cultural Council. Three online classes in the Art @ Home series are currently running this Spring for the Holyoke Senior Center, including an introductory Watercolor and Landscape class, a Floral Notecard Illustration class, and our Bell Totas class. We're excited to see this programming continue and thank the HLCC for their support.
The Art @ Home program began at the start of the pandemic in 2020 when PSI first piloted a series of Zoom art classes in collaboration with the Easthampton’s Council on Aging. The success of these programs in Easthampton led PSI to apply for grants in surrounding cities, which subsidized the cost of take-home activity kits and helped pay faculty and the administration costs. That gap-filling measure has since expanded into broader arts programming, classes, and project instruction for youth and seniors that PSI can now offer to various organizations, including Councils-on-Aging and care facilities, across Western Massachusetts.
